Some claim (although it cannot be proven) that John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, once said; “Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn.” As followers of Jesus, we have so much to be enthusiastic about. We have found freedom in Christ, a purpose for living, a divine destiny and eternal life – and that’s just the beginning.

Honestly, what really puzzles me is that I meet believers week after week who are enthusiastic when they talk about their children, their business or their favorite sport – which is great – but they are not enthusiastic about the things of God.

At times, I find myself falling into the same trap of allowing other interests to block out my passion for Jesus. The truth is that we must purpose in our hearts to become enthusiastic about the most important reality in the entire world: our God and his expanding Kingdom that is growing rapidly worldwide.

According to the U.S. Center for World Mission, “The number of faithful Bible-believing Christians is increasing faster than any other large movement or religion. It is doubling every ten and a half years.” We are on the winning side. Let’s not fall for the lie that atheists, Muslims, cults and the ungodly are taking over.

Of course there are areas of concern. But my Bible tells me clearly, “when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.” (Isaiah 59:19) We are that standard; we represent the eternal growing kingdom of our God!

When Daniel the prophet interpreted king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, he told him, “The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered … it will stand forever. The rock became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth.” (Daniel 2). Daniel was speaking about the Kingdom of our God, a kingdom that will cover the world.

Remember, “For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD.” (Habakkuk 2:14)

We have a reason to be enthusiastic about our God and about His kingdom! Let’s make our decision today to “repent and become enthusiastic about the things of God!” (Revelation 3:19) We are on the winning side! Let’s catch on fire with enthusiasm and expect people to come to watch us burn.
