I talk to myself all the time. Self talk has taught me to believe the truth of God’s Word instead of the lies based on my emotions and limited ability.

The Bible says David talked to himself—he “encouraged himself in the Lord” (1 Samuel 30:6 King James Version). In Psalm103:1, we read David talked to himself—“Praise the Lord, O my soul; and all my inmost being, praise his holy name!”

Studies show that much of our self talk is based on lies coming from fear, insecurity and condemnation. Truth is based on the Word of God and His ability, not on us or on our emotions and limited ability.

I encourage you to get up in the morning and say, “I am righteous through faith in Jesus Christ. I am a child of God. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me today” (Philippians 4:13).

Sometimes it takes time to see the results of self talk. It reminds me of a gigantic tropical species of bamboo plant. Initially, the new shoots grow slowly, but suddenly the growth rate increases rapidly and may reach almost twenty-four inches per day.

Do not give up. Plant your “seeds from the Word of God” every day and say, “I’m righteous by faith in Jesus Christ.” Even if you don’t feel any different initially, keep saying it because it is true. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

One day the Word of God is going to bear fruit in your life, and it’s going to grow and completely change your life.

Learn to talk to yourself. Just make sure that what you say is true.
