The Bible tells us that Jesus gives various gifts: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers to equip his church to be ministers and to build up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12). These five gifts are all an expression of Christ himself. He is giving each of us some of His authority to train and encourage others according to the gift he has given to us.

I read recently that apostles are builders, prophets are revealers, evangelists are recruiters, pastors are connectors, and teachers are trainers. And these gifts are all around us, not only in the church but also in the workplace and in community organizations. Each gift is different, but each is essential. So how has the Lord wired you? Are you a builder, a revealer, a recruiter, a connector or a trainer? Sometimes it takes a while to figure this out.

God’s kingdom is diverse, but every part is desperately needed. And since every culture and nation has a redemptive purpose from God, we also need to learn from those in other parts of the world. So let’s humble ourselves and stay open to learn.

Paul the apostle tells us that each of us is important to the Lord, and each is like a part connected to a body (1 Cor. 12). Each one is needed to function together properly. God has uniquely created you with a design crafted in heaven. You are created differently from every other person. He made only one you, and you are needed as a vital part of His strategic plan! So just be you, filled with Christ, and serve others! And you will soon know how He has wired you and how you can fulfill your God-given destiny.
