When I was a young boy, I really wanted a chemistry set. My parents never got me one. I think they were afraid that I would blow the roof off the house! However, I improvised by making my own experiments. One day I mixed baking soda and vinegar and discovered they make a great explosion! Baking soda and vinegar by themselves are not explosive, but when you mix them, an explosive chemical reaction occurs.

In the same way, we can trigger a spiritual explosion in our life when we mix the Word of God with faith. Hearing God’s Word alone will not change us, but (by faith) acting on it will! The book of Hebrews tells us that…the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith (Hebrews 4:2). We need to take God’s Word and mix it with faith.

One day an emotionally depressed woman came to a wise believer for advice. She explained that her daughter was immoral. He gave her simple advice, “You need to start seeing yourself and your daughter as God sees you. Rather than being despondent about her situation, see her behind the cross of Jesus. Confess the truth of God’s Word for her life.”

A few months later, the woman and her daughter came back, beaming from ear to ear. The woman explained: “I prayed and began to see my daughter from God’s perspective. She had been living with a man who was not her husband, and one day she woke up so depressed that she decided to take her own life. But, first, she came home to see me.

My family and I received her with joy. She received so much love from our family that she made a decision to give her life to Jesus. Why? Because we saw her behind the cross with the love eyes of Jesus.” This family placed their faith in the Word of God instead of on their feelings or circumstances.

I challenge you today to say, “I’m going to believe God’s Word and act on it.” True faith will rise up in your heart and you will experience the abundant life that Jesus promised. You are not basing your life today on your own feelings or circumstances, but instead, on Jesus Christ and His Word. Set the stage for a spiritual explosion.
