When our oldest daughter, Katrina, was about three years old, she could not hear properly in her right ear, so we took her to our family doctor. After giving her a thorough examination, he took a tube of water and shot it into her ear. Would you believe that a wad of paper came out?! It had been lodged deeply within her ear canal and could not be seen by simply peering into her ear. We had no idea the wad of paper was there, impairing her ability to hear. In the same way, sin can keep us from hearing God’s voice clearly. Our pipeline to heaven gets clogged. Sometimes, only the Great Physician can see the obstruction and take it out so that we can hear clearly once again. David’s prayers are good ones for all of us to pray: “See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Ps. 139:24); “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Ps. 51:10).
