Surrendering to God requires obedience; and the truth is we don’t always want to obey. A young religious leader came to Jesus to ask what he must do to get to heaven. Jesus told him to sell all that he had and follow Him. The leader was not willing to surrender so completely and give up all he owned to follow Jesus, because he was very rich. Jesus turned to His disciples and said that it is hard for the rich to enter the kingdom of God. The disciples were astonished and wondered how anyone could be saved if it’s that difficult! Jesus gave this answer: “What is impossible with men is possible with God” (Luke 18:27). This story makes it very clear that turning our lives over to God in total surrender each day is impossible for us to do. But Jesus said “what is impossible with men is possible with God!” So we have much hope. In fact, we have more than hope; we have a promise! If we surrender and then obey, we soon realize that Jesus can run our lives much better than we can!
