The Walk to Emmaus: Part 2
And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself (Luke 24:27 NKJV).
Can you Imagine what it was like to be in this conversation? Luke introduces us to Jesus, the Preacher! I have heard many good preachers talking about Jesus. But this was Jesus preaching about Himself! Unpacking His story from Moses to the present. Man, I would love to listen in to hear this!
Jesus wanted these disciples to encounter Him in the Word of God. Encountering Jesus in His Word is extremely important. He could have just shown up and said “Guys, hey, it’s me! I am alive!” But He didn’t. It was important they encountered Him in the context of Scripture from the beginning to the present.
To me, this underscores the value that Jesus Himself puts on the Scriptures. I can imagine that Jesus was setting out a whole exposition of Himself in Scripture that would benefit the church in the years to come. Can you imagine how these disciples would talk about what Jesus shared with them when they thought back to that moment? This was a moment where the Manifest Word Himself was defining His very existence out of the Scriptures.
Lord let us encounter you in your Word the very same way that you expounded it to these disciples on the road to Emmaus!
