After I gave my life to Christ in my late teens, every day I wrote on an index card a verse of Scripture that seemed to have special significance to me. Throughout the day, I pulled out the card to memorize it and meditate on its meaning. I literally meditated on God’s Word until it became a part of me. During my first few years as a new Christian, I memorized hundreds of verses of Scripture this way. Paul the apostle tells us we are to meditate on “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy— think about such things” (Phil. 4:8). Through meditating on the truth of the Word of God, we begin to think like God thinks. “Blessed is the man, whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night” (Ps. 1:2).
